This was the first of these paintovers I did for Heroes of the Storm
, to get a feel for how they were going to work out - enjoyed this one, too! Fun fact - I realised after the 2nd one that I probably shouldn't've had the rim light and key light coming from the same side >.< BUT by then I wanted them all to stay consistent so that was the way it ended up staying across the board.
Original Kerrigan model by Phill Gonzales
, and textures by Ted Park.
To let people know what exactly I did, by the way (since these aren't full paintings), I basically frankensteined screenshots of the heroes into the pose I wanted (which in some cases was easier than others, depending on the what poses they'd been animated into), and re-worked lighting over the top, as well as working out finer details over the somewhat lower-res in-game models, especially on the characters' faces.
That said, we're currently re-working basically all of our heroes faces in 3d (with slipgatecentral
doing a lot of the heavy lifting there) so that they hold up better in our in-game 3d portraits as well as in the shop UI on battle.net, so as the Alpha (and into Beta) carries on these updates should start coming online!
