Marsh Watch Process by Mr--Jack Marsh Watch Process by Mr--Jack
It's not that complicated, really, but I saved the process to go along with this one for those that're interested! Final file was ~5 layers, and 3600px wide, done in photoshop.
I know the initial shape just sort of 'appears' but actually that's pretty much what happened, I really didn't play around with the silhouette very much to begin with (for better or worse).

Enjoy!
Here's the final piece -

i have a question.

when you layed down the mech shape, did you think of it more as a shape, and you interpreted it into a 3d form later (like how you see a suggestion of a form in scribbles or noise, and you just pull it out fully), or did you already sketch in an arrangement idea of 3d form (just in a really shorthand kind of way, as colour blobs)?

Some of both, but in this case more of the latter, I was pretty confident about the positioning of the shoulders, 'head' and hips when I started off, and had a pretty good idea of what I wanted the volume of it to feel like.

Excellent work its really great to see the process your using, which elements did you separate out onto those layers.

Initially, it was the background, the mech's shadow, then the mech, I think the ducks had one that came later and another one for other misc pieces (though I'm not very good at keeping things totally neat)
