Grotesque Progress by Mr--Jack Grotesque Progress by Mr--Jack
So the progress for this Diablo 3 related piece...

About 3 hours total, all photoshop + wacom tablet. Fairly self-explanatory otherwise, I hope. 22 layers final file, original res 2500x3000 px.

I might have another go at these guys tomorrow, I don't think I quite captured the . . horror that should be inherent in them. I think it's something to do with the head and the position of the arms; shall do some thumbnailing to see if I can get it closer to right.

These 'gents' were literally a blast to combat in the beta; thanks for the work put into the D3 experience!

and its definitely not a bad thing either. Mr. Oogie Boogie is one of those memorable, almost time-less, characters

Thanks!
Yeah, definitely looks cool with the black background, I wanted to emphasise the form of it by outlining it but it's certainly creepy looming out'o the dark like that.

ah, the middle size, whatever that is (6"x8" I think) all the way!

Glad to hear it's helpful!

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure how to tackle the head so I think that's the main drawback...

meh. I think it may relate to his roundness. I really like the head. Is this one of those guys that bursts out eels when he dies? I haven't seen much of Diablo III.

cool! I think the key with these guys is not to show JUST them, but to also show the threat they represent (eels) somewhat.

do you use 6D pen artpen or regular round pen with your wacom?

The regular one that came with it; (didn't know there were others, actually :))

great, I asked cause I saw that your brush has an angle and isn't round, 6D wacom pen [link] controls the turning angle and does shapes as a regular flat bristle, so I wondered if you used the brush with that angle always or just how did you handle it, can you share the brush to see how it works? (I am not that good making custom brushes)

Oooh, fancy :)
I'm assuming that only works with a Cintiq though, so no such luck.
I have the brush slightly flattened (it works quite nicely completely flat too for getting sharp corners), and then set angle to pen pressure, so it spins depending on how hard you're pressing. (as well as having size and opacity affected as well).

I do get the question a bit so I suppose easiest thing would be to put it up... I'll do that soon. :)

that's a very clever idea, using the angle that way!
as soon as you upload that, I am gonna download it ;)

btw that 6D pen is for intous3, it also works with cintiq but it was made for the intous, I did this [link] using it with my 8x6 on painter, it doesn't work that well with PS :(

cheers

Yeah, especially for something like this that needs some subtle variations in colour I find it's a great way of adding it slowly and building up differences (I think I ended up with 3 or 4 hue and colour adjustment layers).

No probs :D
